An American patriot is a man, woman or child who carries the ideals which founded America in their heart and mind. The person may be a soldier, a window washer or a school child, but they feel the spirit of America in their everyday life. They realize the importance of democracy and freedom of choice, and they will make personal sacrifices in order to defend the Land of the Free. I was hoping to read lots of answers to define American Patriots, and here I am - well maybe - being first. But I'm a British American, so what do I know?
ReplyDeleteA patriot, for me, should be someone who puts the well-being of his/her country and all its people before his/her own personal aims. Someone who only cares for part of the people, someone who doesn't care about the connections between his/her country and the rest of the world, or someone who thinks his country so perfect it can't change, would not be a patriot by my definition. But that's just me.

My definition of an American Patriot would be someone who loves his country and is willing to defend it... people just don't care anymore, do they? Well, obviously some people still care. I'm glad.
