Depends on book, mostly not.

Things I Love Thursday - July 26th, 2009

If you are new to my blog, then this is new to you. If you have been around a while, this should not really be a surprise. Things that I love consists of an interesting and varied list. I love quilts and quilting. I love to cross stitch. I love books. Newly, I love cloth diapers.

Quilts: Not such a bizarre love right? My addiction is fueled by Melisa from Sweet Home Quilt Company. Patterns and hand sewing and something new every time. Patience and fabric are two things meshed together. At this point I have been quilting for about two years now. Not a very long time, but not too short either. I have made over a dozen quilt tops and love to piece. It's the actual sandwiching, basting, and quilting that gets to me. I worked so hard on that pieced top that if I mark on it, I might ruin it. If I try to machine quilt it, I might ruin it. So what happens? It goes in the pile. The pile of finished quilt tops that one day hope to be full use-able quilts... I need a mentor...

Cross Stitch: About 8 years ago, my niece LG was born and for her I made a cross stitch quilt. That would be a stamped already quilted, cross stitch-able baby size quilt. It took 18 months to complete and boy was I proud of that quilt. Then, their house burned and the quilt with it. Ugh. I went out and amazingly was able to find the exact same kit. I made it in less than two months. She still has it today. :) Since then I have made a cross stitch quilt (different patterns) for each and every one of my nieces and nephews. (5 nieces and 2 nephews) Now I'm extremely behind in making my own and I now have to also make another one for niece/nephew unknown!!

I love Books. I really really love the escape into another time and place. I like to step out of my own reality (not that it is that bad right now actually - less than 30 days EDD for my little AppleBlossom to arrive) and journey through an adventure within the lives of characters on a page. I can appreciate contemporary fiction, but my heart really lies within the historical realm. Easily, since I discovered what is available in the last few years I would say that my favorite genre is Christian Historical Fiction. Although from time to time I do find some quality stuff from the general market that I like (ie: Michelle Moran and Deanna Raybourn).

In case you missed the memo. Or if you missed the widget on my top right sidebar (30 days to go, FYI). I'm pregnant. Pregnant with baby #1, grandchild #8 to my parents (of 9 current - SIL due December) and #1 to DH's parents. Long story short, I have wanted to be pregnant for a long time (been married now three years and trying probably seriously for 2). I had gotten to the point where I thought it would never happen. We bought this house and moved in the first weekend of November, while I was miserably menstrating and knowing once again I would never be pregnant. Well, Thanksgiving night a miracle occured and December 15th I found out that I was indeed pregnant! I was looking back through old emails, and on December 18th, I emailed my sisterL about cloth diapers. Today, that makes me laugh. It actually makes me giggle quite ridiculously. I have not spent my entire pregnancy researching cloth diapers, but it is safe to say (as my DH does say it and loudly) I have become obsessed about CD in the last two months. They are so cute and there are so many types and colors to choose from I just do not know where to begin!!

So, when AppleBlossom arrives, she will get to test out all sorts of various cloth diapers in the small stages, so that when we buy (and recommend to friends) our medium stash, we'll know what we really want. I want her to be comfy, and cute, and I want my wallet to stay intact. (So far plans of review include the following brands: Bummis, Fuzzi Bunz, Mother-Ease, Imse Vimse, Thirsties, Kissaluvs, Polar Babies, Kushies, Bambino Mio, gDiapers, bumGenius, Bamboo Baby, and hopefully more if I can get my hands on them...)
