Finished Quilt Top

Finally, my Batik Star BOM Quilt top is complete! This last step with the borders was a nightmare. The quilt is on-point, which means that the rows are sew together on an angle and not straight across (make it diagonal). That is all well and good. But ideally with an on-point quilt, you would miter your borders. Well... there was no where near enough fabric for that. So I did chopped borders. It looks fine, but there was not even enough fabric cut for that per the directions! So I had to cut more, I'm lucky there was a slight bit more. Either way it is finished, and I am very happy with that. Because now I can move on to something else and worry about quilting it later.

Batik Stars - last two blocks complete!

Happily, on Wednesday, the missing two blocks from my Batik Star BOM quilt came. The mistake was that they had been mailed to my OLD address. Nobody is quite sure how that occurred, but the important part, is that week late or not, they arrived!!!

So I jumped in today, to complete them. The bonus block (pictured left) was a NIGHTMARE to put together!! It's all triangles and all bias sewing and I promise you there must have been some errors in original numbers, but never the less... I was able to tweak and push and pull until it does in fact meet up to 12 1/2".

The 12th block confused me. If you know the original pattern you have to take a double take, because in the fabric pieces that were cut the blue and the yellow were switched. But that is okay. Because I like the way that it turned out any how, even though I'm not a huge fan of the brown splotches...



So if you can picture the last two blocks in place, you know the basis of my quilt!!

Now today, after endless hours of cutting the sashing, borders, and binding. Then sewing 96 itty bitty squares into triangles, then crawling around the floor in an effort to align things properly... I have this picture to show for it!

Now, I wait for the last two blocks, and one border fabric to arrive.

Meanwhile, I can start sewing them together, if going at an angle with agree with me...

Quilting and more quilting

So, for the most part, people who know I quilt have probably been curious about the blog just being books books books and more books, so I finally got some pictures taken, and wanted to share some quilts.

Hershey slept "on" it for a while, and then decided that today we must do some quilting...



One project that is in progress, is almost half way there, and that would be my BOM (Block of the month, fyi) from Quilts and Fixins for 2008, Batik Stars.

I'm really having a difficulty posting with pictures, and putting in text, so here I will go ahead and tell you about what's below.

The first image is the Quilt Shop's final BOM quilt, after that are the individual blocks for January through June. (I just made June today!) The next two pictures, I just threw all the blocks down so that you could see the colors together. This quilt is actually my first attempt at working with batiks, and I'm quite enjoying myself. :) The next image after that is a basic lay out of how the blocks will be, once I get in the sashing and cornerstone stars. The last picture is the fabric for the main border, the cornerstone triangles, and the sashing and cornerstone stars. Isn't it pretty???

Other projects that I'm working on are: my green living room quilt that is a version of a split rail fence made in all "love"ly greens.

There is my hubby's flutterby quilt...




There is my PJ quilt, click on Peggy Barkle in the tags for more info... It's sandwiched, and in the process of being hand quilting.

And then there are my fat quarter quilts... My ice cream social, yet to be renamed...

This one is my pastel delight.. ooh, now that'd make an interesting name for it... hmm... Well anyway, you can see the different colors that will make the various square and diamond illusions here...

This is what each completed block will be, or at least a version of it... It's incredible just how long it takes to sew all these little guys together too!

...and my "Turning Twenty and He Loves Me" just awaiting it's border.

That's basically all... for right now anyway. Well, there is this other quilt in process, but it's a gift for my mama, so I cannot show it here. She knows it exists, but nothing of it design-wise. So, shhh!

Batik Stars

This year, I am putting together my first BOM (Block of the Month). Mine is Batik Stars. January's block is all finished, and here is a picture of the store example of what the finished quilt will be. All stars will be on point and not squared. - MJ
