CSFF Vanished by Kathryn Mackel

CSSF Blog Tour
VanishedVanished is not my cup of tea. I read fifteen chapters (not even a quarter through) and it did not perk my interest, but that is not to say that it would not perk yours. Right now, I'm still feisty when it comes to Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction. Many times I find books that are fabulous and I cannot get enough of, but sometimes there is too much of reality and science for me. My reason that I read, be a good one or not - it is still mine, is to escape reality. I delve into the world of my characters and live within their lives. Sometimes things are too close to the harshness of reality that it is not an escape. That has nothing to do with the skill of an author, just more what I'm looking for in a story. If you are looking for a recommendation for Christian Sci-Fi & Fantasy/or Speculative Fiction I have plenty though. (see below)

Hood and Scarlet by Stephen Lawhead
DragonKeeper Chronicles by Donita K. Paul
Beyond the Reflection's Edge by Bryan Davis
The Lost Books series and The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker
(and more if you'd like)

Oh, and don't knock Kathryn's book, just because I'm picky, look at it for yourself and decide if it is up your alley.
Links you may wish to visit are Kathryn Mackel’s Web site, and her blog. Also, please check out the other participants in the Christian Science Fiction & Fantasy Blog Tour and see what they have to say about the book. Another review that does peak the interest is from ChristianFictionReview.com. Many of them have impressive opinions. I cannot help it if I'm droll...

Hey, Margaret, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. Notice, this is a book I didn't even try. As much as I am a fan of Kathryn Mackel's writing, I knew I wasn't up for the supernatural elements. People have compared her story to the TV program Lost. I have never watched that show, either. It's just me.

I find it interesting that your take was that it was too close to reality. LOL

Still, it's good for your blog visitors and mine to learn that a book like Kathryn's is out there and available.

Thanks for participating in the tour!

You read for the exact same reason I do Margaret. Escape. If it doesn't take me away from where I'm sitting I don't finish it. :) Glad you gave it a try and you were honest about your opinion.

I read it but didn't enjoy it for entirely different reasons. Being close to reality doesn't bother me but the multiple points of view and the major cliff hangers did.

But Kathy is worth the try because she's so amazingly talented.
