Product Spotlight: HAVA Sling #babywearing

bwseries

Today I am incredibly pleased to bring to you a Spotlight of the HAVA Sling from Nurtured Family, an neat boutique based out of Houston, Texas.
*Thanks to Rachelle of Nurtured Family for providing this information.*

HAVA Baby Sling

The Stylish Sling for Modern Mama's

HAVA by SlingEZee
HAVA is the result of 9 years of babywearing and two years of brainstorming on how to design a sling that is not only stylish and comfortable, but also conforms to the desires of many mothers to have a sleek and lightweight sling. We believe HAVA accomplishes all of this.

  • Lightweight and compact (half the size of other padded slings)
  • Zippered pocket in the tail
  • Lightweight rail padding, a third of regular padded slings
  • Padded rails can be pulled through the rings for greater adjustability
  • Decorative ribbon on the tail
  • Small, contoured shoulder pad
  • Beautifully pleated and gathered around the rings
  • Comes with instructional DVD
  • Packaged in a cute zippered see through bag with rope handle

We are a family owned and run business focused on bringing you quality products that have helped nurture our own family. Our goal is to offer products in line with our core values – nurturing spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. We strive to exceed the expectations of each customer, because providing tools to promote stronger families is more important to us than making a sale.

Our journey with babywearing began with a very high maintenance firstborn son back in April 2000. To be content, Pierce had to be held, only be me – not even by my husband – for the entire first year of his life. He didn’t sleep much, breastfed constantly (it seemed!), and cried in the car. What had we done?? This didn’t match up with the romantic notion of parenthood we’d held. Wearing Pierce in a baby sling transformed my experience, allowing me to nurture him while going about my day – with two hands free for getting things done. I tried every kind of carrier available, and found a ring sling to be just the thing for comfort and easy breastfeeding. How nice to breastfeed while walking down the grocery store aisle, without anyone knowing what we were up to! When my husband quit the high-tech world, we joked that he’d start a website selling baby slings. We’re not sure when this idea became a reality instead of a joke, but we found ourselves with a website that actually worked as a family business –www.NurturedFamily.com. We started with our favorite baby sling, a fabulous nursing bra, and a brand of cloth diapers. Here we are, some seven years later, selling a wide variety of our favorite items online, as well as at our physical store in Houston. We’re so thankful for our high maintenance little one because he sparked a passion in us.

While my husband goes in to work for our business, I’m blessed to stay home with our five children as a home schooling mother. But once a month, I look forward to going into the boutique and sharing with expectant and new moms how to wear their babies. What a great art to learn! Studies have shown that wearing your baby reduces crying by about half, results in a more secure baby and a happier mother, and is even equivalent to tummy time when it comes to developing baby’s muscles! A few years ago, we had the opportunity to acquire the SlingEZee brand, so www.BabyHoldings.com was born. Last year, we acquired ZoloWear to add to the BabyHoldings family. In addition, I designed a brand new baby sling bringing all of my favorite features together! Most popular baby slings are not constructed for comfort and end up thrown in the closet. This saddens me, since it gives people a bad taste for babywearing. For our new HAVA sling, I brought together a pleated shoulder that spreads fabric wide across the back for weight distribution, as well as sleekly padded rails, a lightly padded contoured shoulder pad, superb adjustability and a zip pocket in the tail. The feedback for HAVA has been excellent – we’ve often heard that it’s the most comfortable sling tried. We couldn’t have guessed the journey our high maintenance baby would take us on – what a great ride! Our prayer is that our passion for babywearing will be a blessing to families around us as they strive to nurture their little ones, too.

Thank you Rachelle  Rebecca for sharing your journey with us all! It especially is helpful to (first time) FTMamas like me to learn of other's experiences for what seems to work best. *grin*

Hold Me in the New HAVA Sling - Nurtured Family

HAVA Baby Sling
The HAVA baby sling is one of the top baby carriers that I recommend. If someone were to ask me which baby sling is the best, I'd say SlingEZee - if you're looking for heavy padding, HAVA - if you're looking for light padding, and ZoloWear - if you're looking for an unpadded sling. The key with the construction of these baby slings is that they cup the shoulder cap correctly and distribute baby's weight properly across your back. Also, their fabrics are fashionable, soft and breathable. HAVA has just one third of the padding that is in the rails of SlingEZee, making it lightweight and half the size - easy to stow. The tail comes together at the label, making adjustability super easy - no open tail to fuss over. Yet the tail flares out below the label, with a generous zip pocket for your necessities. You can't beat HAVA when it comes to fashion, comfort, and usability!

The HAVA Sling looks incredible and has some yummy fabrics to choose from. Not only does the Nurtured Family carry their own HAVA Slings as well as SlingEZee and ZoloWear... they also offer various other brands of great carriers (some of which you will hear more about during this series). They also carry almost all my favorite brands of Cloth Diapers too!!

Product Review & Giveaway: Li'l Peeper Keepers Ring Sling #babywearing

This giveaway is now closed, but please enjoy the review.
bwseries

"Closer to Mama, Happier the Baby."

The first week of March, I introduced you to Rebecca of Li'l Peeper Keepers, you can go back and read that here if you missed it. Getting to know Rebecca over the course of time in preparation for this series has been a blessing, even other Etsy sellers have told me how delightful it is to do business around her. The past few days I have introduced you to several different slings that I have had the pleasure to enjoy such as Rockin' Baby Sling, BabyEtte Boutique Super Wide Ring Slings, Comfy Joey Ring Sling, and will spotlight HAVA Slings tomorrow, but today is my absolute treasure. Of all the slings that I have experienced, none surpass my Li'l Peeper Keepers Tencel Ring Sling. Rebecca was an absolute doll and sent me a Deliciously Soft Cranberry Tencel Twill Ring Sling for review with an instructional DVD.

When it arrived, I was feeling a little down, because I was having difficulty truly adjusting the shoulders and being comfortable in a certain other sling (although the Enginerd assured me it was just me as the sling worked for him just fine). I opened my package to find the sling deliciously wrapped with a bow and was absolutely stunned with how beautiful the shade of cranberry is in the fabric. I popped in the DVD and figured that this might be a different experience.

Everyone that I talked to had raved over ring slings and loved them. And up to this point I was skeptical that they were for me. I watched the video and within minutes we were carrying around the house like a pro. AppleBlossom loved it! I love it! It is so soft and the embroidery stitching is so pretty and elegant. This is the sling and with the video is how I really started to see what I was doing incorrectly before. Because of Li'l Peeper Keepers I can wear my other slings with comfort as well. But I still love my Li'l Peeper Keepers Sling the best.

ABOUT LI'L PEEPER KEEPER CARRIERS: Great care has been taken to make sure that these carriers are sewn with quality and safety in mind. Pouches are sewn with a reinforced seam, known as a French seam, to shape the carrier. Ring sling fabrics are chosen with care as to style and strength, and each sling is carefully reinforced at the rings.
Babywearing is both a joy and a responsibility. Although Babywearing is simple, it will take practice and precautions, just like anything else. Don’t expect you or your baby to “sling like a pro” the very first time. Keep at it – it’s worth the effort!

Most of the review products were arriving shortly before my flight to Atlanta was planned (to go help out after my mom's surgery). I was desperate to figure out what would be best. I was thinking that I wanted to do a wrap, because then AppleBlossom would be fully covered and less surface area for do-good "I wanna touch the baby" strangers... but I read that you might have to take it off at the security depending on the staff and procedures. And I was not about to have to balance a baby on my lap and attempt to tie a wrap. So then I was trying to decide on the soft structured carriers. Again, with a Mei Tai or Carrier I would have to put her down or balance her to get it right. But the sling... well the sling I could just pop over my shoulder then maneuver her into it... that could work! Well let me tell you, it did work. It worked like a charm!

When we arrived at the airport, in the check in line, I put AppleBlossom in the sling. She cuddled up to me and we were set. She fell asleep during take off, woke up a little into the flight (probably at full altitude) and sang at the top of her lungs lightly wrapped in the sling during the flight, she nursed twice in the sling and we had full coverage, then I wrapped her up, snugged her down on to my lap (on her back) and she slept through the landing and continued to sleep while I diembarked, made my way through the airport to baggage claim and did not stir until I loaded her into the car seat in my dad's car. Now that screams comfort! I was comfortable and so glad that I had her right with me and did not have to worry about any technicalities or discomfort of untying or wrapping or carrying the car seat. We did have to take it off through security, but I just held her, placed the sling through the machine, grabbed it back on, situated and we were off. It was so simple, peaceful and honestly a delight.

It was the only carrier I took with me to Georgia and it was all I needed. I used it around the house while helping my mom and then when I went out on errands. It was so simple and so beautiful (it makes me feel beautiful *wink*). Through out my trip I had (no kidding) more than four people ask me about it and where I got it. (Which of course sent me off on a tanget about babywearing). One woman even tried to buy it off my back. (Well if I was not in so much love, and had not just boarded the airplane... I could always buy another.)

Speaking of buying another!! I'm already planning a part of our tax rebate to buy me another one... perhaps a purple or green shade (have you seen my blog *wink*)... but only the Tencel for me thanks! The fabric is dreamy. It is so soft and really elegant. I would not hesitate to wear it to a fancy event as well as every day. The Tencel Twill is available from Li'l Peeper Keepers in a handful of colors and they are all lovely.

Why choose a print that you have to consider "matching" your outfits to? Here is a solid sling that is certainly not "plain." The beautiful, natural fabric drapes with a softness that is complimented with the contrast decorative stitching, our LPK trademark.

A good basic for any beginning or advanced baby wearer, a tencel twill ring sling combines durability with softness. This fabric has a good heft to it as well as a beautiful drape and a rich color. Tencel is a natural fiber, made from the cellulose in trees. The twill weave adds even more strength to this natural fiber. This luscious cranberry color has slight variations of color in it. A versatile solid, you won't need to be particularly concerned about "matching," either. Yet, with the contrast tan stiching, this sling certainly is not "plain."

This is a great sling to begin your baby wearing experience with or else add as a basic addition to your sling collection. Because of its neutral color and accompanying DVD, it would also make a great gift for a baby shower. Easy care: machine wash cool; tumble dry low. MADE IN USA!

Each carrier comes with a DVD telling/showing step by step how to carry a child in numerous positions. Useable from infant through 35 pounds. The rings we use are designed to be used for babywearing. The rings used nonwelded aluminum rings from the US company slingrings.com.
I just love the shoulder and it truly is the most comfortable for me. Like BabyEtte Boutique, Li'l Peeper Keepers also has a fancy embellishment stitch on the shoulder and hem, but LPK has it all the way around the sling and I really love it. (Good grief, you'd think I could come up with something more to say that just repeating I love it!)

Tencel Twill Ring Slings are not the only thing that Li'l Peeper Keeper carries, in fact she also has lots to offer in the way of Dupioni Silk Ring Slings, Linen and Tencel Slings, Cotton Ring Slings, Pouch Slings, Baby Wraps, and Toy Pouch Slings as well as other baby necessities. (Keep watching my babywearing series to hear more about her pouches and wraps!) Now hmm... if only I could combine the Super Wide of BabyEtte with the Tencel Twill and contrast decorative stitching all around of Li'l Peeper Keepers...
