Tess of the d'Urbervilles

Airing January 4 - 11, 2009 on PBS Check local listings

The revelation of a connection to the distinguished d'Urberville pedigree whispers the possibility of a better life for the poor Durbeyfield family. When Tess Durbeyfield (Gemma Arterton, Quantum of Solace) ventures out to "claim kin" to handsome Alec d'Urberville (Hans Matheson, Dr. Zhivago) and his mother, she finds not only an employer but an admirer. But soon, Tess learns that behind Alec's seductive words and privileged veneer is a darkness that will alter her life. Yet, during Tess's greatest despair, an Angel enters her life — Angel Clare (Eddie Redmayne, Elizabeth: The Golden Age). Filled with hope and fear, will Tess be able to leave behind her dark secrets and claim an abiding love? Based on the novel by Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d'Urbervilles is a powerful reminder that although love hurts, it also survives.

If I had cable (currently we are with staining at the new house to save money) I would definitely be watching this. I'm hoping my sister/or mother will be able to record it for me. We'll see!
